Peptide Functionalized Metallic Nanoconstructs: Synthesis, Structural Characterization, and Antimicrobial Evaluation - Biomolecule based conjugation of metallic nanoparticles has become an important area of research lately especially considering the role of such nanoconjugates in diverse applications. Herein, synthesis of cationic dipeptide conjugated gold/silver nanoparticles through the covalent approach using carbodiimide cross-linker chemistry has been reported. Owing to the exceptional optoelectronic properties of metallic nanoparticles, peptide-gold/silver nanoparticle conjugates were synthesized employing 2-mercaptopropanoic acid as a cross-linker. The conjugates were further compared with their noncovalently synthesized counterparts using ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy. It was generally observed that the conjugates synthesized using the covalent approach were more stable than the conventional noncovalent approach. The synthesized conjugates were further evaluated for their antimicrobial efficacy. The experimental findings demonstrated that peptide capped silver nanoparticles possessed relatively better antimicrobi
Poly(peptide): Synthesis, Structure, and Function of Peptide–Polymer Amphiphiles and Protein-like Polymers - ConspectusIn this Account, we describe the organization of functional peptides as densely arrayed side chains on polymer scaffolds which we introduce as a new class of material called poly(peptide). We describe two general classes of poly(peptide): (1) Peptide–Polymer Amphiphiles (PPAs), which consist of block copolymers with a dense grouping of peptides arrayed as the side chains of the hydrophilic block and connected to a hydrophobic block that drives micelle assembly, and (2) Protein-like Polymers (PLPs), wherein peptide-brush polymers are composed from monomers, each containing a peptide side chain. Peptides organized in this manner imbue polymers or polymeric nanoparticles with a range of functional qualities inherent to their specific sequence. Therefore, polymers or nanoparticles otherwise lacking bioactivity or responsiveness to stimuli, once linked to a peptide of choice, can now bind proteins, enter cells and tissues, have controlled and switchable biodistribution patterns, and be enzyme substrate

Synthesis, structural characterization, and immunological properties of carbon nanotubes functionalized with peptides - PubMed - Carbon nanotubes (NTs) are becoming highly attractive molecules for applications in medicinal chemistry. The main problem of insolubility in aqueous media has been solved by developing a synthetic protocol that allows highly water-soluble carbon NTs to be obtained. As a result, biologically active p …
